Further information: After a long debating period, the Parliament adopted on 20 December 2017 a draft law which includes setting up a single body to fight corruption, bringing together several agencies. The bill also broadens the list of high-level officials whose income, property and conflict-of-interest declarations would be scrutinised by the new body. However, Bulgarian President Rumen Radev announced his veto to the draft law on 2 January 2018 due to its potential lack of efficacy. He argued that the bill would not be independent and could be used to persecute political opponents.
