Summary:

The European Commission adopted on 13 June 2018 a proposal laying down the objectives and budget for the Programme which assists Lithuania in managing the radiological safety challenges of the decommissioning of the Ignalina nuclear power plant. It repeals Regulation (EU) No 1369/2013.

Further information:

The Ignalina nuclear power plant, located near the town of Visaginas, consists of two High Power Channel Type Reactors (RBMK-1500 reactors). The decommissioning of this plant contributes towards increased nuclear safety in the region and in the European Union as a whole.

The draft law was put forward in the framework of the discussions on the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) for the period 2021-2027.
