Communication on strengthening Europe’s energy networks

Background information:

This Communication was published in parallel with the third report on the State of the Energy Union. It reports specifically on the progress achieved in terms of the goals put forward in February 2015 regarding energy interconnections, as this has been seen as essential when it comes to a successful energy transition.

The European Commission published on 24 November 2017 a Communication taking stock of the progress achieved in integrating and modernising the European energy networks at transmission level through the TEN-E policy.

It also outlines the way forward on the role of infrastructure in the EU's 2030 climate and energy targets and assesses progress towards achieving the 10% interconnection target.
