Summary: In November 2007, France voted its sixth law on immigration since 20031. This intensive legislative activity has progressively focused on an apparently coherent policy agenda: the so-called 'politique 'immigration choisie' (policy of 'chosen immigration'). This agenda departs from past French migration policies aimed at stemming immigration ('zero immigration'). Furthermore, the new policy agenda is openly based on the diagnosis that former migration policies failed in controlling immigration over the last three decades, a failure which led in turn to the death of the French model of integration. |
