The conference was held in Tirana, Albania. Two panels and six workshops provided the opportunities to exchange their views and experience and to work jointly on forward-looking initiatives for independent, sustainable and professional media in the region.

During the meeting, the European Commission announced a package of investment in initiatives to support independent media outlets and boost regional cooperation among public service media.

Freedom of media is one of the political criteria for the EU accession.

A media conference bringing together representatives of media and media-organisations, stakeholders and policymakers from the Western Balkans and the European Union was held on 9-10 November 2017.

The conference was dedicated to the relevance in the role of media in the framework of the accession process.
