Background and further information: The Council first decided to impose these sanctions on 1 April 2016. The persons were viewed as obstructing the implementation of the Libyan Political Agreement (LPA) of December 2015 and the formation of a Government of National Accord in the country. The sanctions were renewed in September 2016 and once again in March 2017. The Council of the European Union decided on 28 September 2017 to extend the sanctions against Libya - targetting three persons - for a period of six months. |
