Background and further information: General elections were held on 8 August 2017 to elect a President, members of the Parliament and local authorities, accordingly to the country's Constitution. The incumbent Uhuru Kenyatta was initially declared the winner of the presidential election with over 54% of the votes against 45% of his competitor, Raila Odinga. However, Kenya's Supreme Court nullified the results on 1 September due to irregularities in the election process. It also requested a new poll to be held within 60 days. This feature offers information on the general elections held in Kenya in August 2017, as well as the reactions from the the international community and the elections' aftermath. Following a court ruling, the results for the presidential election were nullified and a date for a new poll was set for October 2017. |
