The Berlin Process and the Trieste summit 2017

Background to, and reports of, the 2017 Western Balkans Summit, Trieste, Italy, 12 July 2017. This was the fourth Western Balkan summit of the Berlin Process. Trieste was seen as a city which symbolically linked the EU and the Western Balkans.

Several EU Member States (Austria, Croatia, France, Germany, Italy, Slovenia and the UK) and the region's six countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia) reviewed current progress and discussed a broad agenda in an attempt to go further with regional cooperation, increase coherence and deepen economic integration.

Among the central themes of the summit was growth, security and the rule of law, the strengthening of small and medium-sized enterprises and cooperation in the fight against corruption.
