Background: The draft law was put forward by the European Commission in September 2016 to increase trade flows and to foster Ukraine's economic development. An interinstitutional agreement was reached in June 2017 and shortly after it was endorsed by the relevant Parliament's committee and the Council's committee of representatives. The Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) between Ukraine and the European Union - part of the Association Agreement - entered officially into force in 2016, eventhough the last EU member state ratifying the document only did so in May 2017. The European Parliament's plenary session approved on 4 July 2017 a proposal for the European Union to provide further trade concessions to Ukraine supplementing those available under the Association Agreement. |
