Further information: The Scoreboard shows that the European Union's innovation performance continued to grow despite somewhat uneven progress observed across it. Sweden remained the innovation leader while Lithuania, Malta, the Netherlands, Austria and the United Kingdom were the fastest growing innovators. In a global perspective, the EU was catching up with Canada and the US, but South Korea and Japan were pulling ahead. China showed the fastest progress among international competitors. For the 2017 edition, the analytical framework of the EIS has been refined. Results are therefore not directly comparable with previous editions. The European Commission published on 20 June 2017 its annual European Innovation Scoreboard, providing a comparative assessment of the research and innovation performance of EU member states and selected third countries. The Regional Innovation Scoreboard was also released, assessing the innovation performance of European regions. It replicates the methodology of the European Innovation Scoreboard to the extent possible in terms of data availability. |
