Safer sea travel: deal with EP on digitalising passenger information

The presidency today reached an informal agreement with the European Parliament on new rules to digitalise the registration of ship passengers. The purpose is to make the exact number of passengers and other information immediately available for search and rescue services in the event of an accident. The proposal was put forward by the European Commission in June 2016, as part of a larger package of proposals updating EU passenger ship safety legislation.
