French police shot and injured a man who attacked an officer with a hammer outside Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris on the 6 June 2017.

Documents found on the attacker identified him as a 40-year-old Algerian. Sources close to the investigation said that he had subsequently claimed to be a 'soldier of the caliphate' of Islamic State.
