The European Parliament's plenary session endorsed on 18 May 2017 a draft proposal on cross-border portability of online content services in the internal market. The draft law allows consumers who have subscribed or bought online content services in their home country to access it when temporarily in another country within the European Union. The proposal was put forward by the European Commisison in December 2015. The Council of the European Union adopted its negotiating position in May 2016 and started negotiations with the Parliament following the adoption of its own position in November. An informal agreement between the institutions was reached on 7 February 2017. The Council's committee of permanent representatives provisionally endorsed the proposal a week later. |
