The president and prime minister of the Czech Republic in 2018 were both Eurosceptics, and there had been speculation that the country might follow the UK out of the EU. But, argued Benjamin Whitlock, this overlooked a long history of cultivating a ‘European’ Czech identity, in which the country and its predecessors were placed firmly in a European intellectual tradition. This contrasted sharply with ingrained British Euroscepticism. |
