Abstract:

This paper argues that as of mid-2016, the world was entering into a new geopolitical era. The post-Cold War intermezzo was over. Thus, it posed - as seeked to answer - the following questions: are we heading towards disintegration, fragmentation, the EU shrinking away into some sort of European commonwealth? Or does the future still hold “ever closer union”? Analysing recent European Council meetings revealed which political orientation had gained momentum.
