The European Parliament and the Council of the European Union reached an informal agreement on 27 April 2017 regarding a legislative proposal updating the Security of Gas Supply Regulation.

The draft law allows a member state facing an emergency gas shortage to call on other member states to supply it with gas vis 'supply corridors' that would link EU countries into seven transnational regions, the so-called 'regional solidarity mechanism'.

The proposal was put forward by the European Commission in February 2016 as part of a package of measures on energy security. The European Parliament adopted its position in October 2016, while the Council adopted its negotiating stance in December.
