Parliamentary hearing on child sexual abuse and exploitation

The European Parliament's civil liberties committee held a hearing on 25 April 2017 on the implementation of rules to prevent sexual abuse and exploitation of children.

The debate was attended by experts from different EU agencies, the judicial field and organisations supporting victims and comprised a discussion on potential gaps and best practices in enforcing the rules.

The Directive 2011/92/EU on combatting sexual abuse and sexual exploitation of children and child pornography was adopted in December 2011. In a resolution adopted in March 2015, the European Parliament recognised the need for further measures to protect children against sexual abuse online and to fight child sexual offences committed using the internet. To this end Parliament instructed the Civil Liberties Committee to further monitor the implementation of the directive.
