The Congressional Research Service, a department of the Library of Congress, conducts research and analysis for Congress on a broad range of national and international policy issues. Some of the CRS work is carried out specifically for individual members of Congress or their staff and is confidential. However, there is also much CRS compiled material which is considered public but is not formally published on the CRS website. For that reason a number of other organisations try to keep track of these publications and make them publicly available via their own websites. Currently, ESO uses the following websites to track these reports and allow access to them in ESO: EveryCRSReport.com In some cases hyperlinks allows you to access all versions of a report, including the latest. Note that many reports are periodically updated. After a series of attacks against European countries, it appeared that many terrorist suspects in Europe had a history linked to fighting in the Middle East, and especially ties to the Islamic State and Islamist extremist propaganda. The increasing number of U.S. and European citizens travelling to fight with rebel and terrorist groups in Syria and Iraq had become worrying, and it was felt that tighter control over migration to the area was needed. The report examined the numbers related to foreign fighters travelling to the Syria-Iraq region in the years leading to 2015, the policies developed on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean in response to the terrorist attacks, and the challenges to U.S.-Europe cooperation. |
