The European Parliament's environment committee adopted on 11 April 2017 a resolution on food waste and resource efficiency. This was endorsed by the plenary session 16 May.

The initiative puts forward a number of possible measures to cut the food waste produced across the European Union by half by 2030. The document also urges the European Commission to lift restrictions on food donations and stresses the need for a solution on the confusion created by the 'best before' and 'use by' labelling.
