Adoption of proposed Shareholders’ Rights Directive

The Council of the European Union formally endorsed on 3 April 2017 the informal agreement reached with the European Parliament on the proposed Shareholders' Rights Directive, relating to corporate governance and long-term shareholder engagement.

The proposal was put forward by the European Commission in April 2014. The agreement between the two institutions was reached in December 2016. The Parliament endorsed the compromise text in March 2017. The Council's committee of permanent representatives adopted the draft law on 16 December 2016.
