The European Parliament's plenary session endorsed on 2 March 2017 an informal agreement reached with the Council of the European Union on the proposal ensuring that Intergovernmental Agreements in the field of gas and oil are evaluated by the European Commission before signed. According to the new rules, member states need to notify the Commission their Intergovernmental Agreements in the field of gas and oil with non-EU countries before closing a deal with them. The draft law was put forward by the European Commission in February 2016 as part of an energy security package of proposals. The informal agreement was reached in December 2016. |
