Joint statement by High Representative and Vice-President Federica Mogherini and the EU Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response Christos Stylianides on the earthquake in Chile

On the 17 September 2015, a major earthquake occurred in Chile. It affected around 1 million people in the country.

After this attack, High Representative and Vice-President Federica Mogherini and the EU Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response Christos Stylianide on behalf of the European Union said that our thoughts and sympathy go to those affected by the catastrophe and to the Chilean people.

They also insured that the European Commission's Emergency Response Coordination Centre was closely following the situation and the EU would stand ready to provide any necessary assistance, pending Chile's needs and request.
