On the 25 February 2017, violent clashes erupted in Tripoli against citizens. For the High Representative/Vice-President Federica Mogherini the violence would not resolve any of Libya's political challenges. The European Union therefore welcomed the ceasefire agreement announced on the 24 February 2017. In this ststement, the High Representative insured that the European Union would continue to support fully the institutions set up under the Libyan Political Agreement, including the Presidency Council and the Government of National Accord and expected all stakeholders in Libya's future to engage constructively in the political process, within the framework of the Libya Political Agreement and under the auspices of the United Nations, to find a permanent political solution acceptable to all the people of Libya. |
