The European Parliament's plenary session adopted on 15 February 2017 a resolution calling for the European Commission to put forward a proposal to revise the rules of approval of low-risk biological pesticides. MEPs argued that low-risk plant protection products may constitute a viable alternative to pesticide residues and could contribute to more sustainable agriculture. Therefore, they defend in this text that there is a need to accelerate the approval process. Pesticides of biological origin are often based on micro-organisms, botanicals, bio-derived chemicals or natural semiochemicals, such as pheromones or essential oils. |
