The European Parliament and the Council of the European Union reached an informal agreement on 8 February 2017 on the proposal setting up the Structural Reform Support Programme.

This scheme offers member states technical help with structural reforms needed to boost growth and jobs. The support would be provided at the request of the member states and subject to a decision from the European Commission. This programme is worth €142.8 million and was set to run until 2020.

The proposal was put forward by the Commission in November 2015 together with the European Semester package. The Council of the European Union's committee of permanent representatives adopted its position in April 2016. The Parliament's regional development committee approved its negotiating stance in November.
