Summary: Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council of 17 April 2019 repealing Regulation (EC) No 110/2008 on the definition, description, presentation, labelling and the protection of geographical indications of spirit drinks. Further information: Regulation (EC) No 110/2008 has proved successful in regulating the spirit drinks sector. However, in the light of recent experience and technological innovation it is necessary to update the rules on the definition, presentation and labelling of spirit drinks and to review the ways geographical indications for spirit drinks are registered. To ensure a more uniform approach in the legislation on spirit drinks, the new Regulation sets out clear criteria for the definition, presentation and labelling of spirit drinks as well as for the protection of geographical indications. It also sets out rules on the use of ethyl alcohol or distillates of agricultural origin in the production of alcoholic beverages and on the use of the sales denominations of spirit drinks in the presentation and labelling of foodstuffs. |
