The government announced on 1 July 2015 that it will no longer use relative income, or other income and deprivation measures, to assess child poverty. Instead it will track worklessness (joblessness) and educational attainment, together with other indicators to be developed, to monitor “life chances”. It will also abandon the 2010 Child Poverty Act targets to eliminate child poverty by 2020.
