The European Parliament's plenary session backed a non-legislative resolution on 15 December 2016 calling on the European Union and its member states to ensure all citizens affected by the Thalidomide tragedy to have access to compensation.

Over fifty years after the Thalidomide tragedy, in which a German-made morning sickness medicine for pregnant women caused malformations in their babies in several EU countries, victims were still fighting for fair compensation.
