The European Parliament's plenary session endorsed on 15 December 2016 the political agreement reached with the remaining EU institutions on a legislative proposal concerning a visa suspension mechanism. MEPs believed that visa requirements could be reintroduced faster with these rules, when member states face irregular migration surges or security risks. The proposal was originally released by the European Commission in May 2016. The informal agreement was reached on 8 December. |
