Statement by High Representative/Vice-President Federica Mogherini on the occasion of the International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide and of the Prevention of this Crime

On the 9 November 2016, the High Representative/Vice-President Federica Mogherini did a speech on the occasion of the International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide and of the Prevention of this Crime.

She reminded that the prevention of genocide and other atrocity crimes is an integral part of the European Union's Foreign Policy, as set out in the EU Global Strategy. The European Union's conflict Early Warning System integrated atrocity prevention indicators. Our Common Security and Defence Policy missions and operations worked to protect civilians and to build up responsible security sectors. Our proposal for a new Consensus on development confirmed our continued support for atrocity prevention including on-going capacity building programmes in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the European Neighbourhood.
