Statement by the Spokesperson on the release of Samandar Kukanov in Uzbekistan

The release of Mr Samandar Kukanov, on 30 November 2016 sended an encouraging political message for the overall political space in Uzbekistan, as well as for the further strengthening of our bilateral relations.

The entry into force of the amnesty law, as foreseen by the Government of Uzbekistan for early December 2016, which led to the release of additional prisoners, would be another positive step in this regard.
