A new international climate agreement, the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol, sets out targets for phasing down hydrofluorocarbons (HFC), very potent greenhouse gases (GHG) that are used in refrigeration equipment and other applications. The agreed measures can help countries meet their commitments under the Paris Agreement on climate change under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which entered into force in November 2016.
