The European Parliament's civil liberties committee approved on 17 November 2016 a non-legislative resolution on the state of fundamental rights tn the European Union. The Parliament's plenary session endorsed the resolution on 13 December. The report argues that member states should 'refrain from inciting fear and hatred in their citizens towards migrants and asylum-seekers for political gains'. The rights to free movement and life-saving abortion are also stressed in the text. The text addresses the key fundamental rights challenges in the EU in 2015, notably in the fields of migration, protecting children and the online environment. It is the Parliament's reply to the annual report on fundamental rights released by the European Commission in May. |
