The institutions of the European Union reached a provisional agreement on 17 November 2016 regarding the EU budget for 2017.

The 2017 EU budget was set at €157.9 billion in commitments and €134.5 billion in payment credits.

The initial proposal was released by the European Commission in June 2016. The Council of the European Union agreed on its position in September 2016, while the European Parliament's plenary approved its standing in late October 2016. Each institution highlighted different priorities, leading to intense negotiations before the agreement. Each of them still needed to formally endorse the draft proposal.
