European Year of Volunteering 2011

The European Union decided to nominate 2011 as the 'European Year of Voluntary Activities', hoping to increase the recognition and popularity of volunteering across Europe, and to encourage exchange of best practice between its member states.

This was proposed by the European Commission in June 2009.
