During a speech for the United National General Assembly on 20 September 2016, Turkey's president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan demanded for international action against the US-exiled preacher Fethullah Gülen, whom he accused of orchestrating an aborted coup d’état against him. Mr Erdogan also defended his decision to send ground troops into Syria, saying that his military’s incursion had helped establish 'peace, balance and stability in a region taken over by hopelessness.' |
