Following a comprehensive review of the Hinkley Point C project, and a revised agreement with French company EDF, the United Kingdom Government announced on the 15 September 2016 that it had decided to proceed with the first new nuclear power station for a generation. However, UK ministers would impose a new legal framework for future foreign investment in Britain’s critical infrastructure, which would include nuclear energy and apply after Hinkley. The UK formally signed the £18bn contract with France and China to build the Hinkley Point C nuclear power station on the 29 September 2016. |
