The Treasury Select Committee of the House of Commons announced in September 2016 a new inquiryinto the new regime for the regulation of insurance, which was implemented in January 2016.

There were fears that the much delayed EU directive would impose substantial costs on the insurance industry, and the Committee had already heard evidence suggesting that Brexit provides the opportunity to leave the Solvency II arrangement and that doing so would help insurance companies. This inquiry will explore the impacts of the directive, and the options now available to the UK, in more detail.
