A panel from the World Trade Organisation (WTO) declared illegal on 19 August 2016 the Russian pork ban import from the European Union in the light of international trade rules.

The ruling concerns a ban imposed by Russia in early 2014 because of a limited number of cases of African Swine Fever (ASF) in areas in the EU close to the border with Belarus.

The EU had requested the WTO to rule over this dispute in June 2014. This decision followed unsuccessful negotiations between the two parts.
