The German government and its Interior Minister Thomas de Maizière launched a series of new security measures on the 11 August 2016 in the wake of a number of recent violent and sometimes terrorist related incidents in Würzburg, Ansbach and Munich. The proposed measures included an increase in police personnel, a central crime unit for pursuing crime on the Internet, easier deportation for migrants who committed crimes, and depriving Germans with dual citizenship who join foreign 'terror militias' of their German citizenship. Separately, the eight CDU Interior Ministers of the German states and Federal Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere issued on the 19 August 2016 the 'Berlin Declaration' on toughening security laws, which included plans for a partial ban on full-face veils in public, but in the end dd not include radical plans to change the rules on dual citizenship. |
