Space is about to go private. $2.3bn was invested in space start-ups in 2015, more than the previous 15 years combined. The company Moon Express has already got authorisation to send its spacecraft to the moon to mine resources, including Helium 3, which could be used as a new energy source. Unless Europe starts investing in this new sector, the US and China will dominate the international treaties on the impending space property rights.
