On the 8 August 2016, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia activated the European Union's Civil Protection Mechanism following recent flash floods and landslides that had caused multiple casualties in the outskirts of its capital city Skopje. Consequently, a team of technical experts was deployed to assess the damage caused and to provide recommendations to the national and local civil protection authorities. The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia had been already badly hit by flooding in August 2015. |
