On the 20 July 2016, the European Commission approved under the EU Merger Regulation the proposed acquisition of Meda AB of Sweden by Mylan N.V. of the Netherlands.

As both companies operate in the pharmaceutical sector, the Commission had had concerns that the transaction, as initially notified, would have reduced competition on the markets for several pharmaceutical products. The investigation had found that for the majority of the products no competition concerns arise. However, the Commission had identified 15 markets where it had competition concerns, in particular because of the strong position of the two companies and the lack of sufficient alternatives on the market. So the decision to approve the transaction is conditional upon full compliance with the commitments.

The transaction had been notified to the Commission on the 1 June 2016.
