The European Parliament's plenary session approved on 6 July 2017 its recommendations for the European Commission's 2017 Work Programme. There was a debate attended by the Commission's First vice-president Frans Timmermans preceeding the vote.

The Commission was scheduled to send its letter of intent to the Parliament presenting its ideas for the year ahead in mid-September.
