Germany to bolster rape law after Cologne mob assaults

Germany's parliament approved on 7 July 2016 broadening the definition of sex crimes and making it easier to deport foreign nationals who commit them.

The legislation was put together following years of debate on the need for tougher treatment of rape by the criminal justice system, and in the aftermanth of a rash of sexual assaults in crowds on New Year's Eve in Cologne.
