State aid: Commission clears support measures for certain football clubs in the Netherlands

On 4 July 2016, the European Commission stated after an in-depth investigation that the support measures granted to five football clubs by several Dutch municipalities were in line with EU State aid rules because the public funding does not distort competition between clubs.

The investigation had been opened by the Commission in March 2013.

Decisions dealing with the State aid to seven Spanish football clubs were also adopted on the same day.
