Bosnia's State Statistical Agency released on 30 June 2016 the complete results of the first census of its population, conducted in 2013. Its publication had been delayed by disagreements with the statistical institute of Republika Sprska, Bosnia's Serb-dominated entity. Serbs later refused to recognise the validity of the Census, which showed that Bosnian muslims had become a majority in the country.

Government jobs and positions in institutions like the Central Bank have to be divided among these three ethnic groups. The current source of data used for the quotas is the 1991 census. Any change in the ethnic make-up also means new quotas for all these institutions.
