The IEA was founded in 1974 as an autonomous body of the OECD. It has become an authoritative source of policy advice and comparative data on global energy policies.

This analysis covers the main objectives and structures of the IEA (including its system of financing), emergency response mechanisms in the oil sector and deepening global dialogue on energy policy with strategic countries, international bodies and the EU.
