The European Commission welcomed on the 14 December 2016 the final adoption of new regulations for personal data protection, following the adoption by the Council of the European on 8 April 2016 and by the European Parliament on the 14 April 2016. The data protection reform package was first proposed by the European Commission on 25 January 2012 and it includes the General Data Protection Regulation and the data Protection Directive for Police and Criminal Justice Authorities. It updates and replaces the data protection rules that based on the 1995 Data Protection Directive and the 2008 Framework Decision for the police and criminal justice sector. |
