Cyprus exits bailout programme

Cyprus concluded its bailout programme with the European Union's European Stability Mechanism (ESM) on 31 March 2016. In a sign of the Mediterranean island’s improving fortunes, the Cypriot authorities decided not to use the last €2.7 billion of the 10-billion-euro loan package, partly funded by the International Monetary Fund.

European Commission vice president Valdis Dombrovskis praised the Cypriot authorities and people for 'doing what was needed to heal the economy'.
